Anyone with gastritis? Need some advice/input please...

I am at my wits end, my symptoms are such a mystery and I wish I could find some answers. My doctors don't have a clue, so I was hoping some kind poeple on here could read this discussion & maybe shed some light on this/me. I have pain that comes in cycles/flares, I have a constant pain which is achey/twinges in the upper central abdomen, about 2 inches above my belly button. My pain will last anywhere from a few weeks to a few months, then magically starts to lessen & then disappears, this is why I call it flares. I have had all the tests a few years back. Ultrasound, endoscopy, colonoscopy, tested for celiac etc... My pain is constant, it does very in intensity through the day, but it's always there, smack dab in the middle of my upper abdomen. Nothing I eat makes it worse or better, bowels are soft than hard, so i was told it's ibs. But why would ibs come and go like this? I can sometimes go months and be fine, but when it does happen, I have it for weeks/months and it is relentless. The only thing my ultrasound ever showed was a fatty liver (which I have been told is not the source of my pain) and if even I did think it was this, my pain is central, not to the right (where your liver is) My endoscopy a few years back only showed mild inflamation, could these be gastritis attacks? Any info/input would be greatly appreciated...thanks smile

Could be gastritis attack. I'm having the same. All the tests done, camera etc etc. I have mild inflammation at present and find Lanzoprasole helps to stem the pain as it keeps acid from irritating the stomach lining. Mine is left side of stomach (where inflammation is) and constant stomach rumbling. No trouble with going to toilet or anything. Sounds like gastritis to me but I'd go back to your GP and describe the symptoms. Get referred to a specialist again. My gastroenterologist said that you can have flare ups and they come and go, vary in severity and can go months being fine.

Is your pain a constant dull ache? I also feel bloated & get full quickly after meals...

Sometimes bloated. Like I said, the tablets help a lot. More like a pinching pain on my left side

I must tell you that the gut does cause a panicky feeling and I had that for years.  I take meds for panic and depression and they do help, somewhat.

Wish I could help but I'm not a doctor just an ordinary 72 year old woman who has had stomach issues for 40 years.  I was diagnosed with GIRD (gastrointestinal reflux disease) about 25 years ago and have been on Omeprazole for years which does help as long as I don't eat or drink foods which aggravate the condition.  I did have IBS when I was in my twenties but that only caused horrible gas pains and very loose bowel movements.  You should discuss with your doctor the use of steroids (Prednisone) to see if they help.  So sorry I can't be of more help.  Are you under a lot of stress?  I have been stressed for most of my life which I know has not helped.  Good luck and I hope you find some relief soon.

Not to much stress, just the normal day to day stuff but when my stomach acts up my anxiety is definitely high. I have ibs as well but this pain doesn't fit with ibs symptoms, doesn't change at all with bowel habits and why would ibs come and go for weeks/months on end? I think my ibs diagnosis is just something they said I have to shut me up cuz they didn't know what else it was!

Hi have they checked your gallbladder? It could be that or bacterial or stress gastritis too. Mind and body are  interconnected with no doubt.

I had an ultrasound done and nothing abnormal was seen in the gallbladder, is this what you mean?

I have only just seen your post.  I hope that your problem is resolved.  In case it is not, I have gastritis.  I had endoscopy 4 weeks ago.  My pain is a burning pain in my stomach, which usually starts about 2 hours after I have eaten.  i also often have pain in my back from it.  I was also diagnosed with Helicobacter Pylori.  Eating something relieves it for a while.   Perhaps you should have another endoscopy to find out if you have inflammation or gastritis again.  Good luck !
