Two weeks ago the GP told my dad whom has end stage COPD he was dying and told my mum he has a couple of weeks. At this point dad was very sleepy all the time, not eating and had deteriorated quickly refusing to take tablets and only having sips of fluids oxygen requirement had increased and was having trouble maintaining satisfactory saturation levels. He was commenced on a syringe driver 10 days ago yet over the past 5 days he has been more lucid, conversing well appears very frail but appetite has increased and then some. Have any caregivers experienced this before ? palliative care team are continuing with the syringe driver saying that he has plateaued and that this happens although still treating end of life.
