Great news!

Hi everyone, you might have worked out that I haven't been doing so well lately and I finally sought a second opinion. The new GP took one look at me at referred me to a rheumatologist in Sydney (3 hours drive away!) on Thursday! It's unheard of to get in to see a specialist in two days!

I look forward to see what this guy might say about my case.

That is good news. I hope you get some resolution. Best wishes for Thursday. It sounds like a long drive so I hope it is not too painful and exhausting for you. My childhood friend lives in Sydney.

Mr Flip has taken the day off work to drive me up and back - has says I'm in no fit state to be driving (but apparently fine to work full time!)

Glad you have someone to drive you. I guess it will still be exhausting. Have plenty rest when you go home.

I reckon we all deserve a bit of luck sometimes. Just getting a new doc to take one seriously can sometimes be uphill.

Yup, I can't remember the details but I noticed things were not well and wondered what the cause was.. I hope the rheumy works out.

I'm finding managing the pmr relatively easy at the moment, just about to reduce pred some more. The thought of going back to uncertainty and limited abilities or forward to complications doesn't thrill me at all.

A friend recommended this GP, she has ulcerative colitis so knows a good GP when she sees them.  She actually spoke to him about me and he told her to send me in.

The basic story is I'm exactly a year post diagnosis, and a major flare started 8 weeks ago. Back up to 20mg pred daily and it's just not cutting it.  I'm sore, stiff and in pain - almost where I was before pred. My brain is fried, I can't think straight and I'm depressed.

New GP thinks there's something going wrong but no idea what.

      Possibly steroid myopathy?

FlipDover Aust sorry to hear that things are'nt going well for you but glad you have a new Dr. I have a really good doctor and have had from the start. I have had PMR for 14 months now and have had one flare up in that time and my Doc was straight onto it. Best wishes for Thursday-    and I really understand the drive - any specialist for me is in Adelaide which is 5plus hours away - so shall be thinking of you

Good - I'm far from convinced this is "just" PMR unless you have become resistant to the pred you are on which is possible. I don't think steroid myopathy would cause the pain - I had it with Medrol right from the start and I wasn't having pain then, it was much later.

What a shame you hadn't found this obviously very perceptive GP sooner. I didn't think the other one was up to scratch when you had your problems last year.

Men - don't you love them? You shouldn't drive but can go to work????

On second thoughts - I'd better change that from "men" to "your husband". Will he get upset at me?

Once again you demonstrate your wisdom.....pred resistant - check✅

Ill do do a separate post about my visit to the rhuemy.
