They sometimes use plaquenil along with pred and that is an antimalarial. An infectious diseases specialist is the person to ask otherwise. And I've just asked someone who was in SA last autumn.

Direct from the horse's (or maybe the zebra's) mouth! This lady was in Kruger last year after her PMR returned just before going on the holiday they had postponed the first time. She was on 10mg of pred at the time to tide her over the holiday and was absolutely fine.

"No problem at all. Our GP friend recommended Malarone. We bought it in Tesco! The generic version was about a third of the price and you just have to fill out a form, no prescription required.

I'm not sure what other Chemists are registered to do this but Tesco was fine."

Great to hear you had a wonderful time in SA.  Never been there myself but have a very good friend who came to the UK about 12 years ago who came from just outside Jo'burg.
